Housing and Poverty Team

Housing & Poverty Team

The Housing & Poverty Team partners with several social service agencies & faith communities to address poverty in Jeffco.

It’s about empowerment. We strive to make our partnerships inclusive of as many people in the congregation as possible.

All of our partnerships look for opportunities to involve youth, young adults, families, new and visiting members, and intergenerational experiences. Our current partnerships include:

Family Promise of Greater Denver

Family Promise provides shelter, food, transportation and supportive services to families temporarily experiencing homelessness. Common Flame provides comfortable rooms for up to four families, four times a year. We provide homemade meals, transportation for guests back and forth to the day site, opportunities for showers and laundry, and evening activities. We provide a special outing for families on Saturdays. We need 90 volunteers each hosting week.

Family Tree Housing and Family Services

Family Tree helps people overcome child abuse, domestic violence and homelessness, and become safe, strong and self-reliant. Our partnership conducts the annual Holiday Gifting Program, providing holiday gifts and food to families

Habitat for Humanity

This partnership works with Jeffco Partners for Interfaith Action, a coalition of faith communities, to build Habitat for Humanity homes. In October we participate in the joint Jeffco Partners Pumpkin Patch fundraisers in Lakewood and Arvada. The partnership will also solicit funds through a special plate. Several days are planned each year for Common Flame congregants to help build the homes.

The Action Center

The Action Center is the point of contact in Jefferson County for immediate response to the basic human needs of food and clothing. The Action Center’s goal is to give clients a continuum of services to meet their current needs and the means to become self-sufficient. They serve an average of 160 households each day. Common Flame is a co-founder of the Action Center.
